The individual should also be able to competently draft subpoenas, pretrial orders, correspondence, and pleadings among other documents. All these require considerable amount of research.

Individuals with practical experience almost always know what needs to be done and may not always wait for instructions.

The individual should be good with people. Gathering information and liaising with different professionals and departments requires good communication, listening, patience, and respect among other qualities. You do not want someone whose attitude will stand in the way of acquiring critical information. Hence, choose someone who can talk their way through situations and get the job done.

Check the computer skills of the individual you wish to hire. Check their resume to see if they have critical computer skills necessary in your line of work. They need to be able to format documents accordingly as per different mandates. They also need have good writing skills to ensure there is no miscommunication.
