By Harold Allen

Fishing is a lifestyle to many communities all around the world and there are thousands of people who rely on the action as both a source of food and a source of income. It is practised in fresh waters and in salty waters and those communities practising it have come up with numerous and creative ways to fish ballyhoo bait method being among them.

This technique is used by many around the world and for accurate execution during fishing, many have come up with a lot of ways through which they rig the ballyhoo and use the fish as bait to catch other fish. There are expensive methods of rigging, but there are also cheap and efficient methods which can be done fast and in easy ways.

Using of ballyhoo fish as fishing gadget is no new thing and is mainly used by the northern fishermen. Bally fish is salty water dwellers and are usually found on the surface. If one wants to use bally as bait they really dont have to put much of a struggle as the fish is an easy catch itself. Just ensure that the fish is fresh and when you have it put it in a brine solution so as to kill bacteria and keeps the original colour.

With the fish now treated, take your hook and wrap a thin copper wire at the eye of it and ensure to leave a hanging piece on all the leaders. Use this hook and insert it inside your fish going all the way from under the gills up to the stomach. The process should be gentle and with a few practices, it ought to come out naturally.

By this time your hook should be well put and secure in the body of the fish and it is time to create a perfect shape of the bally inside the hood by straightening the surface of the fish. Start wrapping the body using copper wire and firmly secure the fish leaving no loose ends. The mouth, leader and the bill of your fishing rod should be firmly held and to ensure it you should test your fishing rod in the water.

When all the above procedure is well observed, then it is time to set your fishing gadget. This is simple as all you have to do is release your fishing rod twenty-five yards behind, and on a visible surface and with no time your first catch will be minutes away. The method is simple and easy and requires very minimal energy and is time-saving.

The bally used should be in the brine solution always, preferably even overnight before being used and the best bally to use is the freshly obtained ones but if it is not possible, frozen bally that is properly thawe=d can then be used.

As stated earlier, fishing is an activity that beats time itself and there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing it. There is a problem however when one does it with no consideration of the endangered species of the marine life.
