Printable Learning Materials For Kids

By Jordan Schmidt

It is not uncommon for children to forget something of what was learned in the classroom over summer break. To help them keep their minds working there are worksheets that can help them recall what they have learned. There are a variety of printable learning materials for kids to provide educational fun exercises. The materials include things like summer reading activities and creative writing exercises.

Summer is the time to show your child that learning is fun with backyard gardening projects, crafts and scrapbooking. The summertime is a great opportunity to help your child investigate a new hobby. It is also ideal for planning projects that will help with learning responsibility. It can be an opportunity for developing new skills or building on old ones.

Children find that learning takes place wherever they are. They discover new things while visiting a nature center or the zoo. The idea is to pair those types of trips with a worksheet that turns the outing into an educational event. There are a number of free or low cost things for families to do during the summer. Plan to take advantage of what is offered in your community.

Make a plan to include trips to the Zoo, a Nature Center, or museums in your summer schedule. Many community parks offer free concerts in the evenings that can be a great opportunity to introduce your child to a variety of music. Your kids will not complain that they are bored or end up sitting in front of the television set or video game.

Make a point to encourage your child to try new things and explore their interests. Even if you do not take a summer vacation, learning can happen right in your backyard. Plan a garden and let your children be involved from start to finish. Encourage the kids to find other creative projects to keep them occupied and learning.

Creating a summer adventure scrapbook can provide the opportunity for organizing and story telling. Encourage them to journal every day about the places they visit and things they do throughout the summer. Planting and nurturing a backyard garden is a great way to put science skills to work. Have your children write about the garden from planting seeds to harvesting.

You may want to schedule a trip to a jelly bean, nut, or glass blowing factory near you. Industrial plants offer tours to visitors and are often free or very low cost. A visit to a factory is a great way to teach children how products are made. Many of the touring factories offer their products for sale so your kids can leave with something to remember the tour.

Get creative with your list and get your children involved with the planning. Have them do some research online to find out what kind of activities and events are available to them. Take some time to find and print worksheets that will coincide with the activities planned so they become educational events. Your children will be content with a fun filled educational break from school.
