An Overview On Visible Emissions

By Richard Wright

Any particulate matter of micro size, 0.1 to 200 micrometers to be specific, can be described as opacity or emissions. These items could be comprised of smoke, dust, soot, ash, fumes or even liquid droplets. Such material arises from the condensation of gasses such as nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and any other volatile compound. Any substance emitted to the atmosphere definitely has an impact, either positive or negative. The majority of these items have negative effects on the environment. Below are some highlights of the possible consequences of visible emissions.

Oxygen is an essential part of human life. Both animals and plants depend on it for survival. This gas exists freely in the atmosphere. Having said this, an increasing amount of visible gasses will definitely poison the natural oxygen essential for survival. In addition to this, since these components are minute, they can be easily inhaled causing multiple body system problems.

The other markedly notable effect of opacity is an increase in sea and ocean levels. The process through which this comes about is as a result of the direct release of these gasses to the ozone . Carbon compounds result to global warming effect. This simply means the rise in temperatures of land. The cloud formed by the layer of these components also block sun rays reflected from the earth surface adding up to increased temperatures. The final result is the melting of frozen water thus increasing sea levels.

The ozone layer, an important layer in preventing the hazardous rays of the sun from reaching the surface, can also be destroyed. The layer is primarily made up of chemical compounds that through their interaction, block the dangerous rays of the sun. When this layer is exposed to emissions, which is also made up of chemicals, reactions may occur resulting in its depletion.

Diseases and other infections are also spread rampantly. These chemicals are hazardous as indicated earlier. Some can even last for as long as 7 years in the atmosphere. Through their various chemical effects, they can cause disastrous effects on both plants and animals. In animals and humans, respiratory and cardiovascular effects are the primary consequences. To plants, they combine with rainwater, which plants rely on, to form acidic rains which do favor plants growth and cause various plant diseases.

Uncontrolled emission, from the effects above, can lead to severe damage generally. It is due to this that various measures have been put in place to control the situation. In order to become dangerous, a certain level must be exceeded. The baseline level beyond which the consequences can be anticipated can be identified by using the specified chart. Developed in the 1800s, this chart can estimate the smoke density thus giving a reason for instituting control measures.

The other factor contributing to the reduction of this treacherous effects is from activist and environmental lovers, who through their efforts, have pushed for the formation and enactment of rules and regulations curbing dangerous emission. Educating individuals also on the effects of fumes and emission has also played a role in reduction of these pollutants.

The other essential tool that has led to the reduction in the level of these perilous products is the modern technological developments. With this, machinery using carbon related compounds release fewer fumes thus less pollutant effect. All these remedies aim at restructuring the atmosphere and the resultant decrease in the emission adverse effects.
