To refill spaceships on a low earth orbit, you need either of two methods which can be tanker delivery or in space depots. In the latter, multiple tankers are attached to the space instrument, transport the fuel and later depart while in the former, a single tanker is used. Although the techniques differ, they are both globally accepted and applied because of their durable merits.

This design of depots is an immature field and faces a variety of challenges. This has brought up the desire in researchers to come up with a perfect design thus motivating them to invest their energy and time in the research. The issues include propellant settling, transfer, usage for reboots among others. Transportation of fuel is complicated because of uncertain settling of liquids and gases in the tank thus slowing the process.

Lack of gravity complicates the transfer process further as the liquids float in the inlets. Upon transfer of the fluids, the depots need refilling for the next transport. Large vehicles are docked to the tanker with propulsion tugs for an easy and fast refill. There have been different methods developed to enable refilling and are applicable in different scenarios. The most commonly used are where many vehicles accumulate gases at a high altitude and transfer it to a high orbit.

The new rocket ships are small in size and therefore affordable. The new design allows the making of empty tanks that are replenished before the rocket travels. The ancient style involved the making of spacecraft that could carry large amounts of fuel as they depart for their mission thus making the entire machine expensive.

Presence of storage tanks on earth allows mechanical engineers to advance their research. They have the tools at their disposal and can therefore put their efforts into practice. Traditional methods of the design of robots did not promote research and instead eliminated chances of researchers putting their ideas to practice.

Launching of storage tanks on earth enhances the performance of spaceship as the amount of mass they carry to the moon increases. The light carry payload gives the scientists a chance to explore deeper into space without interruptions of material damage in the heavy spaceships. They have a better chance of bettering their research as the light material is less prone to damage.

The repositories will assist in prevention of boiling of fuels using a variety of methods. The methods include structural isolation of the tank to reduce heat condition and use of an active cooler. Sun shield may be used to reduce transmission of heat to the Earth. The tanks are secured with space debris bumpers and micrometeorites which ensures orbital strength.
